Paying your bill: Request a refund

If your account balance shows a credit, you may be entitled to a refund.

Refunds are available after the semester starts and after all of your anticipated credits are applied to your account. Check your balance on MITPAY by reviewing account activity. In order to receive a refund, you will need to create an eRefund account in MITPAY.

MITPAY eRefunds

Log into MITPAY and click eRefunds in the menu bar.

Click on the Set Up Account link to add your banking information.

Requesting a refund

You can request your refund by emailing us at or calling 617.258.8600.

After it’s processed, funds will be sent to your bank account within 2–3 business days.

Please note: We can only accept funds for your educational expenses while you are enrolled at MIT. Payments in excess of the determined cost of attendance for a term cannot be accepted. Payment received in excess of the amount due will be returned in its entirety. See our policies for more details.
