Note: We are currently updating our financial aid calculators to incorporate MIT’s newly announced financial aid policies.

Paying your bill: Request a refund

If your account balance is negative, it means that you have a credit and may be entitled to a refund.

Refunds are available after the semester starts and after all of your anticipated credits are applied to your account. Check your balance on MITPay by reviewing account activity. In order to receive a refund, you will need to create an eRefund account in MITPay.

MITPay eRefunds

Log in to MITPay and click eRefunds in the menu bar.

Click on the Set Up Account link to add your banking information.

Requesting a refund

You can request your refund by emailing us at sfs@mit.edu.

Authorized users may not request a refund on a student’s behalf—the request must come directly from the MIT student, and should be sent from the MIT email address.

After it’s processed, funds will be sent to your bank account within 2–3 business days.

Please note: Payments in excess of the determined cost of attendance for a term cannot be accepted, and will be returned in their entirety. See our policies for more details.
